It was also practice day for the Rural Fire Service (RFS) who brought with them four bright yellow Air Tractor 802 (1200hp single turboprop) fire bombing aircraft that flew sorties throughout the day dumping truckloads of water on the west side of the field. An impromptu meeting of the RFS, Central Coast Skydivers and Schoies began the day to ensure all stakeholders understood each others operations and requirements. The day was a buzz to a background of turbines and AVTUR bouquet. Participating in the competition were John Carswell, Peter Cunningham, Theo Gianotis, Ray Hand, John Hook, David Jaffray, Justin McCoy, David Roberts and Jennifer Stokes. It was a day of firsts! It was David Roberts' and Jennifer Stokes' first time at the competition. David competed using his own Cherokee MTW. Jennifer jumped right in ferrying an aircraft as well as competing on the day. Jennifer shared the ferrying with John Hook in FTU. It was a first time too for Chris Koort, but as an air judge. After a training run looking over Tony Bell's shoulder, Chris was judging like a pro. Thanks go to Chris and Tony Bell for the air-judging on the day. Another first time was for David Jaffray who had his first experience of ferrying an aircraft (EOM). Congratulations to John Hook who won the previous champs division. Warnervale - 17 June 2012: Though the sky was clear there was some discussion about the strength of the forecast southwesterly, but the decision was made to go ahead and both aircraft headed for YWVA where RWY 20 was the duty runway. Participating in the competition were Peter Cunningham, Bill Dawes, Robert Erskine, Karen Heugh, John Hook, David Jaffray, Justin McCoy, Robin Mead, Mike Parer, Garth Schwartz, Alan Todd and Richard Van Doornum. The Forced Landing event was conducted from 1800' to remain clear of some cloud that was around initially. Participating in the Club Competition were Peter Cunningham, Ray Hand, Karen Heugh, John Hook and Garth Schwartz. Thanks go to air judge Tony Bell. Practising for the ALAC were Mike Allsop, Bob Casagrande, Rae Cauchi, Alan Drury, Ray Hand, John Hook and Richard Ure. Warnervale - 19 February 2012: Rare for this summer, it was sunny. The winds were light, first from the south and then from the north, so most had a chance to experience the less familiar 02 direction. As Schofields is aiming to submit teams to the Australian Light Aircraft Championships (ALAC) in April, for familiarisation, the day's sequences followed ALAC procedures and ALAC scoring. Competing on the day were Mike Allsop, Allan Bligh, John Carswell, Rae Cauchi, Ray Hand, David Jaffray, Ashley Kemp, Justin McCoy, Michael Parrer, Guy Radnidge, Garth Schwartz, Richard Ure and Richard Van Doornum. Competing on the day were Mike Allsop, Bill Dawes, David Griss, Ray Hand, John Hook, Andrew Jordan, Justin McCoy, Chris Osborne, Richard Ure and David Winter. Ray Hand was victorious on the day. Second was a tie with equal scores from Mike Allsop who won the blind circuit and Justin McCoy who won the glide approach with short field take-off. Third was David Winter. Special thanks to ground-judge Alan Drury who was at the club at around 5 am for the pre-flight inspections and to set up the blind-hoods (a tea towel held to the dash with masking tape!) and to Mike Allsop for cooking breakfast.
