Theory courses for 2013

In 2013 we will be offering a wide spectrum of Pilot aviation theory courses. There will be a course for everyone regardless of your stage of flying. If any of the courses interests you, please contact the Club to enrol. Courses will be held in our large air-conditioned classroom in our Clubhouse in Birch Street at Bankstown airport. Costs mentioned are Member's Rates and include GST. Non-members' rates are shown in [square brackets].

For all those budding student pilots, here is your opportunity to get the very best tuition available in Australia - the Schoies BAK, conducted by hand picked, specialist theory teachers. Schoies makes the theory component of flying easy.

Commences: 12 January, 4 April, 22 June, 7 September and 23 November

Sessions: Five consecutive Saturdays, between 0900 and 1700 each day.

IREX Theory Course Back to page.

This course is intended for private and commercial pilots preparing to undertake training for an instrument rating qualification. Classes will run Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for 10 weeks.

Commences: Monday, 11 March 2013 for 10 weeks, 2 nights per week

For all those budding private pilots, here is your opportunity to get the very best tuition available in Australia - the Schoies PPL, conducted by hand picked, specialist theory teachers. Schoies makes the theory component of flying easy.

Six Saturdays in a group with other students is a far more efficient and easier way to cover the PPL theory than trying to study at home. No distractions and somebody else is sure to ask the question that you hadn’t thought of. BAK knowledge will be assumed although it will be revised.

We need a minimum of six participants, so if you want to get that PPL theory exam out of the way in a relaxed mode with only the flying to do, you should register early so we can finalise numbers and arrangements.

Commences: Saturday 16 February, , 27 July and 12 October
Duration: 6 days over 6 weeks - 0900hrs to 1700hrs each Saturday (including lunch break)

GPS Theory Course Back to page.

Garmin GNS430 Here's your opportunity to qualify for a GPS enroute endorsement. This credential is a prerequisite for any IFR GPS capability, such as en route GPS, DME or GPS Arrival, RNAV (GNSS) [or GPS/NPA], or for a GPS endorsement on a Night VFR rating. VFR pilots desirous of using GPS to supplement visual navigation will also find benefit from this training. On successful completion of the course, you will be given a log book certification in accordance with CAO 40.2.1, a requirement for these activities.

A GPS Training Course will be conducted at the Club on the Sundays listed below from 9:30am to 4:00pm. Printed course material will be supplied and there will be practical exercises using the Garmin GNS430 receiver in the Club's Synthetic Trainer. Book and pay ($200, including GST; non-members $230) one week before course start to secure your place. Lunchtime sausage sizzle included.

On successful completion of the course and endorsement will be entered in your log book in accordance with CAO 40.2.1. Don't forget to bring your log book with you to the course.

When: Sunday, 24 March, 30 June, 29 September and 15 December

Duration: 9:30am to 4:00pm

Location: SFC Classroom 1

Cost (member): $200.00 incl GST (non-members $230 incl GST)

Suggestion: Bring your own laptop loaded with the simulator.

Lunch: Cost includes a BBQ for lunch

Flight Instructor Rating Course Back to page.

Flight Instructor training After gaining your Commercial Pilot's Licence, you'll most likely be looking for employment opportunities in the aviation community. One of the most useful qualifications you can gain is that of Flying Instructor, which enables you to be employed to do the things you really enjoy. You'll start off with a Grade 3 rating, and progress to higher rating as you gain experience and take on board the additional theory. The Rating will enable you to take students through all sequences to day VFR PPL and CPL standard in single engine aircraft.

SFC will take you through both the ground and flight components of your Instructor Rating. Allow a minimum 52 hours flight training, comprising 32 hours advanced dual instruction and 20 hours mutual training.

When: Commencing: 8 January 13, 9 April, and 24 September

Duration: 12 weeks

A high first-time pass rate with over 100 successful graduates

Prerequisites: CP(A)L, CIR/NVFR, Class 1 Medical

Ground tuition: 54 hours supervised classroom + 100 hours research support

Facilities: State of the art facilities; dedicated Grade 1 Instructors

Flying: 32 hours dual + 20 hours mutual

Aircraft: Piper Warrior (including Avidyne Glass Panel)
